A hip-hop mogul’s story goes from bling to bust

MIAMI – Just a few years ago, Scott Storch was one of the top producers in pop music, living in a $10.5 million mansion on an exclusive Miami island, driving a phalanx of luxury cars and dating the likes of Paris Hilton and Lil’ Kim.
Nowadays, Scott Storch, 34, is missing in action. He owes more than $500,000 in real estate taxes and had a warrant out for his arrest when he failed to show up in court in a child-support case last month. He has not had a top-10 hit in three years. He still has his waterfront marble mansion, but his lawyer, Guy Spiegelman, says Storch is attempting to refinance it after a “catastrophic occurrence this year” resulting from “mismanagement.” Storch no longer works with his old manager or publicist. He hasn’t talked to either of his children in months.
Replete with tragic details and bad behavior, the ballad of Scott Storch may be the swan song of the bling era, a riches-to-rags tale of excess, poor decisions, and a hobbled music industry. Link
Murs & 9th Wonder at it again for a FREE NEW ALBUM!!! Sweet Lord
After critical success in both Murs 3:16 and Murray’s Revenge, Los Angeles emcee Murs and Raleigh producer 9th Wonder are giving their third album, Sweet Lord, away for free. Made available for free, unlimited download at MursAnd9thWonder.com, Sweet Lord features 10 originally composed and written tracks.
The effort, which is sponsored by skateboard company and clothier Hurley, is also accepting free donations via Paypal, similar to the approach used by Radiohead with last year’s In Rainbows. The release comes as the second this month for 9th Wonder, who produced the entire Jeanius album by Jean Grae.
As for Murs, he is planning a mid-September release for his Murs For President album, the emcee’s major label debut on Warner Brothers. The album features guest appearances, including Snoop Dogg.
Jay-Z & Timbaland team up for Collabo Album?
The last time Timbaland worked on a Jay-Z album was for The Black Album (”Dirt Off Your Shoulder”.)
In an interview with MTV, Timbaland revealed that Jay-Z asked him to collaborate on his future album.
“He wants me to do the whole thing this time around,” Timbaland said. “I’mma make it a classic too. You better believe it. It’ll be a monster!”
No date yet on when they’ll start working on an album but regarding Jay-Z dropping albums, Timo said “Jay should never chill. We had a long talk, and I really talked to him. Jay-Z does it for the love. That’s different. When somebody does it for the love, you don’t stop. He has everything, but he’s still current. A million people are buying his album regardless.

About Frienemies: This event will bring an underground event to crown one B-boy or B-girl as the BEST. Each one has to represent the most effectively throughout the day in a STRICTLY CIPHER-driven event.
Frienemies is about representing in the ciphers. Every B-boy and B-girl is on their own! No preset battles. In the early to mid ’80s, breaking was at an all-time high throughout the world. Crews were rolling thick, and a lot of them were at peace. The only time they didn’t get along was when it was time to battle in the club. Rock Steady Crew and New York City Breakers were going to places like Negril, The Roxy, Kennedy High School and other places where jams were going down.
No one was worried about hurting someone’s feelings or concerned with battling their own friends, but rather battled with a fierce will to win. We were all “FRIENEMIES.” ‘Frienemies” is the place to battle that person that you chill with on a regular basis and show him/her that they’re not as good as they brag about all the time.

Kid Rock .vs. Eminem?
Rocker Kid Rock and rapper Eminem have been offered one million dollars to perform at a rap battle in Detroit by the producers of the upcoming documentary Rap Therapy.
The winner of the battle will be given one million dollars to be donated to the charity of their choice.
“It will be a televised rap battle and the winner will pick up GBP 500,000 for the charity of his choice,” Black Le Vine, the rap therapist explained.
There is still no word yet on if the two have accepted the offer or not.
Rap Therapy will feature appearances by 50 Cent, P Diddy, Tom Cruise, and others; the documentary will focus on the use of Hip-Hop as a tool for helping combat abuse and gang violence.

Dr. Dre & Monster create new Headphones
Legendary artist and producer Dr. Dre, Interscope Geffen A&M Chairman Jimmy Iovine and leading audio/video accessories company Monster, announced today (July 22) via press release that their new Beats by Dr. Dre high definition powered isolation headphones will be available July 25th at Apple retail and online stores, Best Buy retail and online stores, as well as the official website beatsbydre.com, for a price of $349.95.
With the help of Monster, Dre and Iovine hope to provide consumers with high-level audio performance headphones, meaning extreme clarity, deep bass and full power which they believe have been lacking in conventional headphones. By combining new advanced materials, sophisticated construction, extra large drivers, and a powerful digital amplifier, The Beats by Dr. Dre high definition powered isolation headphones have the capability to reproduce the crisp, clear sound that musical artists and producers hear in professional recording studios.
Dr. Dre says via press release: “Artists and producers work hard in the studio perfecting their sound, but people can’t really hear it with normal headphones. Most headphones can’t handle the bass, the detail, the dynamics. Bottom line: the music doesn’t move you. With Beats, people are going to hear what the artists hear and listen to the music the way they should – the way I do.”
Furthermore, to recreate the quietness of an isolated recording studio listening experience, the headphones also feature powered ambient noise-isolation, allowing consumers to hear all the details and nuances in their music.
Convenience is also key as the headphones come with additional Monster iSoniTalk headphone cable with integrated high grade microphone and answer button for consumers with music-enabled phones.
“Dre and I have been developing these headphones for a while and in Monster we found a partner that could work with us to crystallize his vision and develop them to the quality level he expects,” said Jimmy Iovine. “Beats By Dr. Dre is yet another example of Interscope‘s commitment to working together with its artists in developing new avenues to experience music.”
The headphones will be available starting July 25th. Link
Next 2 Nas Albums to be produced by Premier & Dre?
No matter how much anyone has enjoyed a Nas album, nearly everyone has clamored for the day that Nas and DJ Premier would link up for an entire album. There was rumor of the two collaborating awhile back but it unfortunately never came to fruition. While Premo has reportedly been busy with his own projects, he mentioned to DX awhile back that Nas never reached out to him for Untitled. But it appears that Nas is now taking the first step in making the dream album come true.
While performing at a concert on July 15th, Nas directed an appeal towards DJ Premier in front of the fans attending. What Nas wants is an entire album produced by the legendary Premo. Whether or not this dream comes true is still a mystery. But Nas isn’t done with his dream collaborations yet.
“I want to do an all-Dr. Dre album,” he told MTV News recently. “A whole thing with Dre and a whole thing with Premier, and drop ‘em on the same day. That’s the real thing. All right, I said it. That’s what I really wanna do.”
While there have been no preliminary talks with either Dr. Dre or DJ Premier, one has to wonder if either of these projects have the remote possibility of coming to life. Link

Nas going IN on 50?

Nas Is Coming. As if 50 Cent doesn’t have enough enemies to contend with – Young Buck, The Game, Fat Joe and Shaniqua Tompkins – Nas is throwing his hat in the ring as another adversary for the G-Unit general.
Apparently Nas is finally ready to take aim at Fif after being on the receiving end of many insults over the past few years. On the track “Queens Get The Money” from his much anticipated album Untitled, Nas seemingly fires a dart at the fellow Queens native. Though he doesn’t directly call out 50, it can be assumed from lyrics like this.
“Niggas is still hatin’ / talkin that Nas done fell off with rhyming / he’d rather floss with diamonds / they pray please god let him spit that oozie in the army lining that shorty doo-wop rolling oowops in the park reclining take twenty-seven mc’s put em / in a line and they out of alignment / my assignment said she said retirement hiding behind 8 Mile and The Chronic / get rich but dies rhyming / this is high science / now add 23 more from Queens to B’more / I’m over they heads like a bulimic on a seesaw / Now that’s 50 porch monkeys ate up at the same time”
Uh oh. Could we be on the verge of “Ether 2?” 50 better be careful here. He has to take into account he’s never been to war with anyone like Nas. While he’s bumped heads (pause) with Ja Rule, Fat Joe, Jadakiss, The Game, and now Young Buck, Nas has been to battle with Notorious B.I.G and Jay-Z. There is no question Escobar would be his toughest lyrical competition to date. Link
