Eminem Returns To The Big Screen With “Southpaw”
Eminem will grace the movie screen for the first time since 2002′s ’8 Mile’ the upcoming boxing drama ‘Southpaw’.
Earlier today, MTV News reported that rapper Eminem will make his long-awaited return to the silver screen in the lead role in the upcoming film Southpaw.
The film, which has already been picked up by DreamWorks, will find the Detroit rapper portraying a welterweight boxer whose career is cut short by personal tragedy. Kurt Sutter, the film’s screenwriter and creator of FX’s popular drama “Sons of Anarchy,” said that the film carries a metaphorical relevance to rapper’s own much-publicized trials and tribulations
“I took meetings with Marshall’s producing partners over the past seven years, looking for something to do together,” he said. “I know he’s very selective and doesn’t do a lot. But he shared so much of his personal struggle in this raw and very honest album [Recovery], one that I connected with on a lot of levels. He is very interested in the boxing genre, and it seemed like an apt metaphor, because his own life has been a brawl.” (MTV.com)
Sutter also added that, “We are doing a metaphorical narrative of the second chapter of his life. He’ll play a world-champion boxer who really hits a hard bottom and has to fight to win back his life for his young daughter. At its core, this is a retelling of his struggles over the last five years of his life, using the boxing analogy…I love that the title refers to Marshall being a lefty, which is to boxing what a white rapper is to Hip Hop; dangerous, unwanted and completely unorthodox. It’s a much harder road for a southpaw than a right-handed boxer.” (MTV.com)
According to reports, the first draft Sutter’s script for Southpaw will be completed by February. DX will keep you updated as more details are revealed.

The YouTube video has gone viral, with over 250,000 hits so far. The mini-Montana shares the stage with a pint-sized Michelle Pfeiffer character who sighs: “You do coke and you kill people. That’s wonderful, Tony.”
The tiny cast utter the famous lines from Brian De Palma’s ultra-violent gangster movie, which ends in a bloody gun battle.
Although it is captioned “Jaydon’s school put on a kids production of Scarface” and an audience of adults can be seen in the front row, the video is not entirely genuine.
According to TMZ.com, the video is the work of director Mark Klasfeld and Rockhard Films, who also made Lady Gaga’s Pokerface video, and the children were found through a casting agent.
Nevertheless, many people who have seen the video are outraged by its content.
