Dr. Dre Links with Jay-Z For Single For Detox Dropping This Week?

After months of product placement with his Beats By Dre headphone line and spots in ads by Dr. Pepper and HP,  it looks as though Dr. Dre’s Detox album may be getting its first single this week.

According to the Twitter account of E! News’ Michael Yo, the legendary producer will be hooking up with one of Hip Hop’s premier artists for his first single: “Look for it this week New Jay Z and Dr Dre!!!” tweeted Yo.

Michael Yo later added that Interscope Records was “buzzing” about the as-of-now unnamed song. According to YouHeardThatNew.com, the track has been described as “up-tempo,” and is indeed intended as Detox’s first single.

More on this as it develops.

Detox Not Coming Until 2011?!?!

It looks like fans of Dr. Dre will have to wait just a little longer for the release of his highly-anticipated and hugely delayed solo album Detox.

In a Q&A that will be featured in the March edition of SLAM Magazine Dr. Dre revealed that the album will not be available until next year, 2011.

When asked about Detox Dre responded with the following, “Well, I’m working on it, but also I’ve been working on other people’s projects; you’ll probably hear something in a year or so.”

This latest update is sure to have fans of Dr. Dre wondering if Detox will even be released at all.

Detox was initially set for release several years ago, but Dr. Dre was again swamped with solo projects from several artists on Aftermath and the album was gradually delayed.

Dre did give fans a very small taste of Detox when a snippet from Detox was included in a Dr. Pepper commercial last year.

The Game Working With Dr. Dre for “Detox”?

Since being ousted from G-Unit in 2005, The Game‘s relationship with his one-time mentor, Dr. Dre, has often shifted between borderline fanatical and what appeared to be subliminal shots. At various times within the last four years, Aftermath artsits Bishop Lamont and 50 Cent (signed through the Aftermath subsidiary Shady Records) have also been involved in beef with The Game, while Dr. Dre remained quiet about the situation.

During a HipHopDX interview in 2008  Bishop even left the door open to a possible reconciliation saying, “I genuinely have love for dude. His brother is my brother; Big Fase 100 is my brother. His sister, B-Fly is my sister. Me and his mom talk all the time. We were at a Father’s Day thing together just this Sunday. It was Dre’s mom, his mom and my mom, so I’ve got love for him. Niggas blow that wrestling shit out of proportion. At the time he did that record I wanted to beat him up, but that ain’t shit. It’s all love.”

Those feelings were apparently co-signed by Dr. Dre, after The Game posted a picture of himself, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre in the studio working together.

“CAN U SAY ‘DETOX’ ??? IN THE STUDIO WIT DRE & SNOOP. WE BOUT 2 MAKE ALOT OF PEOPLE MAD. RIDE WIT US OR GET RAN OVER ! AFTERMATH OR DIE !” Game wrote via Twitter.

Death Row To Release Unheard 2Pac Tracks + Tracks From Former Artists

Roughly a week after the 38th birthday of deceased rapper Tupac Shakur, WIDEawake Entertainment Group, the company that recently acquired the assets of Death Row Records, has announced that they will be releasing an album of unreleased music from Tupac as well as other releases from former Death Row artists in the near future.

The new releases stem from a deal between WIDEawake and music publisher EverGreen. As part of their deal EverGreen will be responsible for compositions and master recordings in the Death Row catalog.

“After purchasing the Death Row catalog in January, WIDEawake began looking for a partner to help monetize their rights,” David Schulhof, co-CEO of EverGreen explained to Billboard. “We already had a relationship through the estate of Tupac Shakur; WIDEawake was looking for an exclusive boutique company to help focus on licensing in the film, television, video game and ad world; and because we own the catalogs of Tupac and 2 Live Crew and Teddy Riley and others, they knew we already had experience in the genre. So, it just felt like the obvious choice for them to partner up with us for Death Row.”

Aside from the Tupac album which will be released in June 2010, just in time for the rapper’s next birthday, WIDEawake also plans on releasing The Chronic Re-Lit. The Chronic Re-Lit, which will include four bonus tracks and a DVD featuring footage of Dr. Dre and other artists, will be released September of this year.

In mid-January Blender magazine reported that Death Row Records had been auctioned off to WIDEawake Holdings for the sum of $18 million.
