“Artist Of The Decade” Soundscan Award Goes To Eminem

Recently, Eminem was awarded the Nielsen SoundScan “Artist of the Decade Award,” which recognized him for having sales exceeding 32 million units domestically (worldwide, his sales are approximated to be near 80 million). The award was presented to the multi-platinum rapper by Nielsen Entertainment President Eric Weinberg and Nielsen Entertainment’s Retail Relations Vice President Chris Muratore.
2000′s The Marshall Mathers LP and 2002′s The Eminem Show were each certified diamond, meaning over 10 million records sold domestically. 2004′s Encore sold over seven million, while 2005′s greatest hits album Curtain Call nearly reached double platinum status. 2009′s Relapse managed to hit platinum before the decade ended as well.
In addition, Eminem was part of other high-selling projects which did not count towards his tally as a solo artist, including two platinum D12 albums in 2001′s Devil’s Night and 2004′s D12 World. Other platinum releases included Music from and Inspired by the Motion Picture 8 Mile, and Eminem Presents: The Re-Up.

“Relapse 2″ Is Now “Recovery”

If you follow Eminem on Twitter, you would have seen him tweet “There is no Relapse 2” last night and sparked a fire under every one of his followers and posing questions as to what he meant. While most took that literally (aka no album coming out), his ghost twitterer meant it more in the terms that the R2 album title was scrapped and a new one would be announced soon.
Today courtesy of his website, Eminem released details of the new album (now titled Recovery) which is set for release June 22nd. Relapse 2 was supposed to be the follow up to his comeback album Relapse, and was set to contain tracks that didn’t make the cut for the original. Working with producers like DJ Khalil, Just Blaze, Boi-1da and others, Eminem decided to give the album a new name considering the project was going in an entirely new direction.
You can read the full press release at Eminem’s site for more information on Recovery.

Bizarre of D-12 Talks Relapse 2, Canibus Diss Track
While on tour in Canada promoting his Friday Night At St. Andrew’s album, Bizarre called in to the “Conspiracy Worldwide” radio show to address all things D12.
“We’re still recording the third album, and we just finished a song on Relapse 2 for Marshall’s album,” Bizarre said via phone. Tentatively titled “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” Bizarre says the collaboration shows that despite major losses such as the death of co-founding member Proof, nothing can keep the group down.
“We’re still family, but everybody’s got their own situations going on,” he added. “No matter what y’all do, you can’t hold D12 down. We’ve been through a lot of shit, but we’re still gonna come back and recover.”
Bizarre reinforced that thought when explaining how members of D12 ended up on Canibus diss track aimed at Eminem entitled Air Strike
“That was definitely a big misunderstanding,” Bizare said. “We did a feature for an artist from Indiana, and I guess some kind of way Canibus got hold of the vocals. He made his own song out of it and made it seem like we was a part of the song. We don’t know Canibus, and we don’t want to know Canibus..fuck him. We’ve been beefing with rappers our whole careers, and we’re trying to get away from that.”
Bizarre’s upcoming Friday Night At St. Andrew’s is scheduled to be released May 11. There are currently no release dates scheduled for the forthcoming D12 album or Eminem’s Relapse 2.
The Alchemist Talks “Relapse 2″

Off the heels of his Grammy performance of “Forever” with Eminem, Lil Wayne, Drake and Travis Barker, XXLMag had the chance to chop it up with The Alchemist about Em’s highly anticipated new disc, Relapse 2.
While the disc does not have a release date as of press time, ALC says Em is hard at work in the studio with DJ Khalil. The West Coast beatsmith has had a big year, producing standout joints for Drake (“Fear”), Clipse (“Kinda Like a Big Deal”) and Slaughterhouse (“Cuckoo”).
“Khalil—who I think is like the best producer right now to me—he had been sending records to Em for a while that wasn’t like, they weren’t like clicking in,” Alchemist told XXL. “Em knew he was dope but they haven’t found the right one. And I think they found a couple joints now… the joints they have are crazy. I can’t say 100 percent [that he made the album], but I have heard at least two joints Khalil did and they’re fuckin’ stupid.”
Al, who serves as the Detroit lyricist’s tour DJ, revealed that he has yet to score a beat on Em’s project. “I’m starting to be around Em and the camp more,” he said, “especially finishing these albums. Factor in Em’s sober now, it’s like that’s my man, we chop it up a lot more now…it’s like little by little I’m figuring out what I have to do to create a sound that would be Alchemist/Eminem. I didn’t get it yet.”
One person that Em has been working a lot with is Just Blaze. Al gave XXL insight into their chemistry: “He clicked with Em,” he said. “It was really amazing, too. They really vibed and made some music, beyond like Just just sending him beats, it was nothing like that…I think it’s a perfect meshing of the two…If you could imagine what they could bring to the table at this point, it’s pretty close and maybe a little more.”
In fact, in ALC’s opinion, the whole album is a level above the first Relapse. “He’s doing things lyrically on this album that he hasn’t done before,” he shared. “The punchline game is really back.”

Eminem Is Re-Releasing His Album “Relapse” With 5 New Tracks

According to the rapper’s homepage, the re-release of Slim Shady‘s fifth solo effort will be titled Relapse: Refill, and will feature five never-before-heard songs, plus his posse cut with Drake, Lil Wayne and Kanye, “Forever,” and “Taking My Ball,” which also appeared on the “Renegade” edition of DJ Hero.
“I want to deliver more material for the fans this year like I originally planned” said Eminem. “Hopefully these tracks on The Refill will tide the fans over until we put out Relapse 2 next year“.
Eminem elaborated on his recording process for Relapse 2, indicating that the creative process has taken longer than he anticipated. “I got back in with Dre and then a few more producers, including Just Blaze, and went in a completely different direction which made me start from scratch. The new tracks started to sound very different than the tracks I originally intended to be on Relapse 2, but I still want the other stuff to be heard.“
There is no current release date set for Relapse 2. Relapse: Refill hits stores December 21.
